General
Message2Give supports four distinct message types: SMS, Email, MMS, and Voice. Each message type has unique characteristics, pricing models, and creation workflows. For instance, SMS messages are charged per unit based on character count, while emails support rich HTML formatting and attachments.
This guide provides an overview of common features and concepts that apply across all message types. We recommend reviewing this documentation before exploring specific message type guides to understand the foundational elements of message creation in Message2Give.
Message Composer
Each message type features a dedicated Message Composer interface where you create and customize your message content. Whether you're composing an SMS text message, designing an HTML email, or assembling an audio call, the Message Composer provides the tools and controls specific to that message type's requirements.
Text Editor
Most message composers include a text editor for content creation. While specific features vary by message type, all text editors support basic text input, dynamic placeholders, and template functionality.
The text editor serves as your primary content creation tool, often referred to as "Message Content" or "Message Text." Simply type your message content into the editor, and recipients will receive exactly what you've written when the message is sent.
Placeholders
Placeholders are dynamic variables that automatically insert personalized information into your messages. They use the format {{variable_name}} and are replaced with actual values when the message is sent.
For example, using {{client_name}} in a message will automatically replace that placeholder with the recipient's actual name. Placeholders must have predefined values in your workspace's Contact Attributes or other data sources to function properly.
Example:
Original message: "Hello {{client_name}}, would you like to discuss {{case_number}}?"
Delivered message: "Hello John, would you like to discuss our new product?"Note
Placeholders can reference various data sources including contact properties, agent information, or custom values from CSV files. Each feature has specific placeholder compatibility requirements.
Templates
Templates are pre-designed message frameworks that streamline content creation and ensure consistency across your communications. You can create Templates for each message type, incorporating placeholders for dynamic content. Templates save time by eliminating the need to recreate common messages and can be reused throughout your workspace.
Workspace Contacts
All messages require a sender identity. Your workspace supports various contact types for different message channels:
- Phone Numbers: Virtual Numbers and Sender IDs
- Email Addresses: Email Aliases
When creating a message, you select the appropriate contact that will appear as the sender to your recipients. This ensures your messages are delivered from verified, recognizable sources.
